Raby Caste – One of England’s finest medieval castles

Raby Castle was build by the mighty Nevills in the 14th century and is one of the finest and best preserved medieval castles in North East England.

Visitors can also experience the Blue Bedroom, designed for very important visitors to the Castle in the 19th century.

Visit Thornton Hall Gardens and discover the rare and unusual plants around. This is the place to be for all garden lovers.

The Hall is one of the oldest buildings in the Borough of Darlington and one of only 6 to be awarded the Grade 1 listing.

Head of Steam – Darlington Railway Museum

Step back in time to Victorian Darlington and head to the Head of Steam Railway Museum to have a look at the world’s first steam-worked public railway.

Visit the booking office with its original Victorian interior and explore their platform that still has its original footbridge, waiting room, newspaper kiosk and Victorian toilets.

The museum has also a dedicated research centre,The Ken Hoole Study Centre, which has an expensive collection of documentary material, photographs, plans, books and periodicals.
